Margaret Pierce Stroupe, 97, a resident of Grace Ridge Retirement Center in Morganton since 1987, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at Grace Hospital. She was born March 22, 1908 in Beaufort, NC and was a daughter of the late William Adair Pierce and Blanche Fulcher Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Lee Stroupe, Sr. Margaret was a graduate of UNC-Greensboro, and she moved to Morganton in 1945. She taught school for 38 years with the last 19 years spent at Mull Elementary School in Burke County. Margaret was a member of Grace Episcopal Church she served on the Altar Guild for many years and Women of the Church (ECW). She was a former member of the Grace Hospital guild, and volunteered as a pink lady for over 30 years. Margaret was a member of the Morganton Women’s Club, and active in the education department for the club. She was also a member of the Mimosa Chapter of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a son, Frank L. Stroupe, Jr. of Matthews, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Bruce Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on the mezzanine of Grace Ridge. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 303 King St., Morganton, NC 28655 or to Grace Ridge Retirement Center Friendship Fund, 500 Lenoir Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
