Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, Margaret Mabe Perkins Powell, 79, of Hartland Road, Morganton, NC passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on March 2, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Nathaniel Mabe and Allie Setzer Mabe.Mrs. Powell was a devoted elementary school teacher for Burke County Public Schools for 35 years. Known to her students as Mrs. Perkins, she loved teaching and guiding young children. A member of First Advent Christian Church, Mrs. Powell was a devoted Christian who loved God, her family, and friends. She had a big heart and always loved to spend time with her family. She will be greatly missed.Margaret is survived by her husband, Harland Wade Powell of the home; her children, Norman Perkins and his wife, Sharon, of Hanford, CA, Janee Ramsey and her husband, Michael, of Morganton, Randy Perkins and his wife, Vonda, of Granite Falls, NC, and Audrey Ryan and her husband, Doug, of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Zachary Perkins and his wife, Sandy, Jeremy Perkins, Aaron Ramsey and his wife, Jordan Laney, Katie Dill and her husband, Chaz, Kristen Perkins, Rachel Perkins, Allie Ryan, and Jack Ryan; step-children, Wade Powell, Jr., Carolyn Johnson, Janet Branch, and Robin Powell; sisters, Iva Mabe and Nina LaFevers, both of Morganton; and several nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren whom she loved very much.In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years, Burl Norman Perkins; brothers, Melvin and Harless Mabe; and a sister, Doris Stover.The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at First Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Patrick Bradshaw and the Rev. Ronnie LaFevers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
