Marcus “Marty” Edwin Morgan, 69, of Drexel passed away unexpectedly Thursday, October 3, 2019. Marty was born July 25, 1950 in Burke County and was the son of the late Marcus LeRoy Morgan and Cassie Coffey Morgan. He was a graduate of Drexel High School and a veteran of the NC National Guard. Marty worked in construction for years prior to working at Burke-Catawba Confinement Facility. He later worked for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office as a transportation officer. In 2010 Marty retired on disability.
Marty is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet Browning Morgan; sons, Christopher Shane Morgan and wife, Caroline, and Kyle Edwin Morgan and fiancée, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Peyton and Harper; brother-in-law, Keith Browning and wife, Lauri; sister-in-law, Connie Ruggles and husband, Marty; father-in-law, Herbert W. Browning; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and hunting “brothers”.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
