Marc J. Ransbottom, 53, of Morganton passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his residence. He was born December 26, 1956 in Norwalk, OH, and was a son of Guy Ransbottom of Camarillo, CA, and the late Joan Miller Getz. Marc joined the US Army in 1974 and served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist until his retirement in 1989. He lived in Florida for five years where he was employed at Longwood Fire and Rescue as a paramedic and firefighter. Marc moved to Morganton in 1993 where he graduated from WPCC, and then was employed at WPCC as a drafting and design engineering instructor from 1999 until 2005. Marc was an avid bowler at Mimosa Lanes. He was a loving and devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather.In addition to his father, Marc is survived by his wife, E. Jane Moses Ransbottom of the home; daughters, Brandi Ransbottom Spears and Ashley Ransbottom, and grandchildren, Sydnee Spears and Kaleb Howard, all of Morganton; a brother, Gary Miller of Sanford, NC; and a nephew, Gary Ransbottom.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2010 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the US Army Honor Guard unit from Ft. Bragg immediately following the service at the funeral home. The ashes will be interred at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at a later date. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
