Mackie "Mack" W. Epley, 76 of Mt. Olive Church Rd., Morganton, NC died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at his home following a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, NC on November 11, 1934, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Epley and Frances Settlemeyer Epley. For over thirty years, Mack worked as a molder at Drexel-Heritage Furnishings, and he also worked at Universal Furniture in Marion, NC. He attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Epley and sisters, Judy Buff and Katie Belle Fowler.Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ruth McMahan Epley of the home; a son, Randy Wilson Epley of Morganton; daughters, Judy Epley Roberts and her husband, Tim of Newton, NC and Peggy Epley Connelly of Morganton; grandchildren, Dustin Epley, Cody Epley, Chastity Edney McNeely, Jonathan Whalen, Fred Whalen, Emily Connelly, and Timberly Clauss; three great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Herrick of Morganton; and a number of nephews and nieces.The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Doug St. John officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service.
