Luther Gideon "L.G." Sink, Jr., 85, of Bethel Road, Morganton, NC, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at College Pines Health & Rehabilitation Center following several months of declining health. Born December 3, 1921 in Lexington, NC, he was the son of the late Luther Gideon Sink, Sr. and Sallie Cross Sink. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stokes Sink and Clarence Sink; and a grandson, Luke Sink.

Mr. Sink was a graduate of N.C. State University and was employed as Farm Manager at Broughton Hospital under the NC Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. L.G. was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church where he was a long time Sunday School teacher and former member of the church council.

L.G. is survived by his wife of 59 years, Doris Swing Sink of the home; a son, Ronnie Sink and wife, Kathy, of Lexington, KY; a daughter, Becky Schlein and husband, Chuck, of Morganton; a brother, Jack Sink and wife, Betty, of Lexington, NC; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Sheppard of Lexington, NC; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Sink of Lexington, KY.

The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael F. Riley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be held on Friday, December 15, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in Lexington City Cemetery in Lexington, NC. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church Building Fund, 119 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke United Christian Ministries, 305-B West Union Street, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at College Pines and Valdese Hospital for their loving care during the past three months.
