Lula Rose Swink, 99, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 30, 2025.


Born in Burke County, NC on January 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late George Rose and Ola Clark Rose. Lula attended Glen Alpine United Methodist Church until she was no longer able.


She was the matriarch of the family, and was a loving mother and grandmother. Lula enjoyed working with her flowers, gardening, doing needlework, and making things for her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing large meals for her family. She also enjoyed word puzzles and reading her Bible.


Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Betty S. Clark (Robert) and Wanda S. Knupp; son, Paul D. Swink (Angie); daughter-in-law, Kristy Swink; grandchildren, Loretta Sluder, Vincent Clark, Timothy Swink, Courtney Swink, Erin Knupp, Alex Knupp, Tracy Wilson, Becky Harris, and Scotty Swink; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hazel Dellinger and Shirley Swink; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.


In addition to her parents, Lula was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Lee Swink; son-in-law, Wesley Knupp; brother, Garfield Rose; and sisters, Ivy Rose and Nellie Singleton.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 7 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Ron Rider officiating. The graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Jonas Ridge Cemetery.
