Lucille Johnson Norman, 89, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Born in Burke County, NC on February 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Walter Melvin Johnson, Sr. and Eula Mae Baker Johnson.

Lucille was a member of Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the women’s auxiliary. She worked at Shadowline for 31 years and retired from Henredon after 13 years. She enjoyed riding horses, camping, cooking for friends and family (particularly New Year’s dinner), and especially spending time with her beloved family.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Lucille is survived by her husband, Henry Norman; sons, Walter Norman (Vickie) and Todd Norman (Pam); grandchildren, Rachel Norman (Logan), Sheri Smith, Kirt Norman (Phylicia), Blake Norman, Graham Norman (Nikki), Melinda Smith, Courtney Bradshaw (Christian), Jerry Keiser (Alyssa), and Mary Keiser; sixteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Rebecca Dale, James Johnson, and Linda Benton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Suttles; and a brother, Melvin Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3083, Morganton, NC 28680-3083.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
