Lovera Belle McCall Avery, 85, of Morganton passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

She was born on January 3, 1932 in Gastonia to James Lawrence McCall and Tera Hipps McCall. She grew up in Setzer’s Gap in Caldwell County and graduated from the Collettsville School in 1950.

Belle was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Roland Boyce McCall and Charles Larry McCall.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lloyd “Bud” Avery, her son, Scott Philyaw (Jessica) of Cullowhee; her adult grandsons Adam Avery Philyaw and David Allen Philyaw of Cullowhee; twin sister, Nell McCall Greene of Commerce, GA; brother, James Shields McCall (Ruth) of Lenoir; step-son, Jeff Avery of Morganton; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Belle enjoyed decorating, playing the piano, cooking, playing cards, and shag dancing. She was a bright and joyful presence in the lives of the many people who loved her. She will be sorely missed.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home in Morganton.  The graveside service will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery with Eddie Brittain officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to MemoryCare, 100 Far Horizons Lane, Asheville, NC 28803.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
