Louise "Johnnie" Johnson Broome

Louise "Johnnie" Johnson Broome, 90, of Morganton and formerly of Stone Mountain, GA passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013. She was born in Catawba County, NC on September 25, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Wayne George Johnson and Nannie Kate LaFevers Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Rhodes Broome, and by brothers, Dale and Gene Johnson.Mrs. Broome was valedictorian of her high school class and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College prior to becoming a nurse. She retired from Wachovia Bank in Atlanta, GA and spent many retirement years working in Stone Mountain Park. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. No matter where she lived she was always active in the United Methodist Church.She is survived by her children and their spouses, Donna and Clint Lytle of Morganton, Steve and Jaye Broome of Charlotte, NC, and Beth and David Hammond of Lilburn, GA; four grandchildren,, Matt and Britt Lytle, John Broome, and Joseph Hammond; four great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Robert Johnson, Earl Johnson, and Earlene Newton all of Hickory, NC.A celebration of Johnnie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. John Fowler and Rev. Todd McCullough officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton, NC. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in her memory to First United Methodist Church Building Preservation Fund, 200 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655 or to St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 5365 Memorial Dr., Stone Mountain, GA 30083. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting with arrangements.
