 Louis Edward Poole, 88, of Morganton, NC died Friday, December 12, 2014.  Born September 28, 1926 in McDowell County, NC, he was a son of the late John Summerfield Poole and Hester Grant Poole Chapman.  Louis was raised in Marion, NC, and as a child, he was a member of West Marion United Methodist Church.  He was a proud World War II and Korean War US Navy Veteran.  During his military service, Louis was an underwater demolition team member and also a radio operator.  After being discharged from the military, he worked as a foreman at Drexel Heritage Furnishings at various plants and the Design Center for over 40 years.  Louis was a 32nd degree Mason in the Mystic Tie Lodge in Marion, NC.  He loved hunting and fishing with his friend, the late Bill McKenzie, took pride in talking about his time in the Navy with friends and family, enjoyed time on the lake, and always looked forward to the home-cooked meals of his wife, Peggy.

Louis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Bright Poole of the home; a daughter, Loretta Poole Moses of Morganton; grandchildren, Kay Dillon and husband, Keith of Ashburn, VA, and Stacy Reel and husband, Matt of North Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandsons, Sean, Bryce, Scott, and Jack; and a brother, Herman Poole of Marion.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by his step-father, Ben Chapman; brothers, John “Jack” Poole, Horace “Doc” Poole, and Graham Poole; and sisters, Callie Sartain and Nell Gatland.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2014 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Pat Bradshaw officiating.  Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. before the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
