Lotis Marie Banner Saunders, 83, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, of Morganton passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 following a period of declining health. Born on April 8, 1929 in Durham County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Franzelle Banner. Mrs. Saunders was a retired employee of Broughton Hospital and was member of Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her flowers and gardening.Lotis is survived by her husband, Raymond Saunders; four children, Jimmy Saunders and wife, Margaret, of Hickory, Rama Kay Hensley of Morganton, Kenneth Saunders of Morganton, and Norma Saunders of Sherrills Ford; grandchildren, Tara Saunders Mode and husband, William, Bobbitt Hensley Miller and husband, Joe, and Steven Chandler; great-granddaughter, Gracie Mode; brother, Lawrence Edward Banner and wife, Mary Lou; sisters, Lorene Price and Ramona Walden and husband, Wayne; and a number of nieces and nephews.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Reverends Cynthia L. Arnold and Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke County Friends for Animals, PO Box 1884, Morganton, NC 28680 or to Denton’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 5358 Denton Chapel Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
