Lorie Shannon Burleson of Morganton, aged 50, passed away December 10 as a result of a pedestrian traffic accident while walking home from work.
Shannon was born in Hickory in 1975 to Kenneth W Burleson and Stephanie Larke Burleson. She was a graduate of Hickory High School and attended UNC Greensboro where she received dual degrees in English and psychology.
Shannon’s life was focused on serving others, having worked in both the hospitality and healthcare professions. She was most recently employed at Broughton Hospital. Her caring and compassionate nature shown through, especially when working with patients in her care. She was studying to become a Substance Abuse Counselor.
Shannon carried with her a sense of adventure and travel. In her younger years, she joined a cycling group which spent several weeks traveling the Outer Banks. She enjoyed the sport of ice hockey and was on a women’s hockey team in Greensboro that was featured in the 2006 movie “Pucked,” which was filmed in Greensboro. She was an avid reader and writer who loved the outdoors and hiking. She loved animals, especially dogs, and fostered and cared for several over the years.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Larke. She is survived by her brothers Grey, Ryan, and Elliott (Amy), and their daughter Faye, whom she loved.
A memorial service will be held 1p.m., Sunday, December 28, 2025 in the Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home, located at 1011 S Sterling St. in Morganton, NC.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
