Lola Deal Mull, 101, of Autumn Care of Drexel, NC, and formerly of East Parker Rd. in Morganton, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at the nursing home following a period of declining health. She was born July 22, 1904 in Burke County, NC, and was a daughter of the late Robert "Bob" Deal and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Rector Deal. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edward Mull; a son, Rawlin Mull, grandchildren, Ronnie Barger, Jerry Stroupe, and Barry Mull; a step grandchild; a step great-grandchild; brothers, William, James, Clarence, Laythern, Ephriam, and Henry Deal; and sisters, Geneva Campbell, Pauline Houser, and Dulcine Houser. Lola was the oldest member of Mt. Home Baptist Church. In past years, she was an avid gardener and seamstress. While a resident of Autumn Care, Lola loved reading, and always had a book in her hand.

She is survived by sons, Alvin Mull of Morganton, and Howard Mull and wife, Eva of Florence, SC; daughters, Lucy Barger and husband, Ray, Beatrice Hensley and husband, Jack, and Rebecca "Becky" Mull and husband, Howard, all of Morganton; brothers, Jesse Deal of Valdese and John Deal of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Mull of Madera, CA; grandchildren, Kay Davis, Steven Mull, Sandra Walker, Kathy Crowe, Michael Mull, Glynnis Mull, Daryl Mull, Cynthia Stroupe, Jana Shell, Beverly Stroupe, and Barbara McFalls; sisters-in-law, Katherine Mull and Bessie Mull, both of Morganton, and Blanche Mull of Newton, NC; 16 great grandchildren; 11 great great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great grandchildren; 2 step-great great grandchildren; and a special friend, Nonie Ross of Morganton.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Monday, July 3, 2006 at Mount Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes before the funeral hour. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Home Baptist Church Graceful Giving Fund, 2272 Mt. Home Church Rd., Morganton, NC 28655.
