Lex "Babo" C. Poteet, 66, of Pete Brittain Rd., Morganton, NC died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born August 6, 1940 in Burke County, NC, and was a son of Mildred Azlie Digh Poteet of Morganton, and the late Ira Winston Poteet. Lex was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Poteet served with the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment of the US Army. He was a retired employee of Morganton Dye and Finishing, and also owned and operated City Billiards and Café. After his retirement, he enjoyed being outdoors and cutting wood. Lex loved animals, especially dogs, and he was an avid coin collector.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by children, Chris Poteet and wife, Joyce, of Granite Falls, NC, and Anita A. Poteet of Morganton; grandchildren, Miranda Dawn Poteet, Candace Alexa Poteet, and Emily Elizabeth Poteet; his former wife, Lena Sue Anderson of Newland, NC; and brothers, Farrell E. Poteet of Morganton, Steve Poteet of Drexel, NC, and Bobby Poteet of Conover, NC.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2007 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 until 2 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at a later date.
