Leonia Grady Poteat, 86, of Morganton, NC went to Heaven to be reunited with her family on Monday, May 5, 2025. She was born on January 9, 1939 in Burke County to the late Frank McDowell Grady and Mattie Queen Grady. She was a member of United Baptist Church. Leonia was a homemaker, loved to cook and work in her yard. She was the best Grandmaw and loved taking care of her kids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Jink” Poteat; siblings, Cleo Fullbright, Ester Whisnant, Kenneth, Thomas, Charles and Claude Grady.
She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Frye (Murphy); grandchildren, Amber Bentley Anderson (Dylan) and Erik Bentley; great-grandchildren, Joleigh Anderson and Layla Anderson; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will begin at 10am on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Burke Memorial Park with Chaplin Stephanie Pace officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Triple Community Fire Department or Via Hospice.
The family would like to thank the Burke County EMS for their compassionate care.
