The God of love and creation called Leola Corpening Edmondson, 93 from labor to reward. She departed her life on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Trinity Village, Hickory, NC following a brief illness. She was born January 10, 1924 in Burke County, NC and was the daughter of the late Henry Jack Corpening and Gertrude Fox Corpening. Leola had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to watch her favorite TV programs.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Edmondson; sisters, Lorenza Corpening, Gladys Corpening, and Helen Phillips; and brothers, Roy Jack and Guy English Corpening.
Leola is survived by nieces, Barbara Sands and husband, Douglas of Mt. Airy, MD and Frances Elliott and husband, James of Morganton; step-son, Lonnie Edmondson and wife, Reba; grandchildren, Lisa, Lonnique, and Leo; a great-grandchild, Lammar; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church. The service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Gwendolyn Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gaston Chapel A.M.E. Church, 102 Bouchelle St., Morganton, NC 28655.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
