Lee Chapman, 92, of Morganton, NC passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026. He was born on September 21, 1933 in Burke County to the late Sam Chapman and Emma Watts Chapman. Lee attended Shady Grove Baptist Church and loved his family dearly. He enjoyed gardening and working with furniture. He also loved going to the mountains, the Atlanta Braves, watching FOX News, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Zora Davis Chapman; son, Danny Lee Chapman; daughter, Phyllis Ann Chapman; grandchildren, Nathan Digh and Sam Chapman; great-granddaughter, Zora Renee Johnson; great-grandson, Daxton Wayne Chapman; brothers, Max Chapman and Ollis Chapman: sisters, Annie Peeler and Ivey Gilbert.
Lee is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Osborne (Jimmy); son, Rex Chapman (Jean); grandchildren, Kristen Johnson (Josh), Tyler Digh, David Chapman (Amber), Bradley Chapman (Lauren), Marcia Hicks, Tyler Prichard and Travis Prichard; numerous great-grandchildren; special friend, Edna Whisnant; and his canine companion, Leo.
The family will receive friends from 3pm-4pm, Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Missionary Ridge Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 4pm in the church with Rev. Darvey Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
At other times the family will be at Lee’s residence, 2854 US 64 in Morganton
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
