Lavenia Mildred Duckworth, 94 of Morganton, NC passed away, Saturday, March 4, 2023. Born on December 19, 1928, she was the daughter of the late McCoy and Lois Barrier. Lavenia was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church. She worked for Buster Brown and Skyland Textile in the sewing department and Broughton Hospital.

Lavenia is survived by her son, Rev. Terry Duckworth (Jan); grandchildren, Cameron Duckworth (Emily), Casey Duckworth (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Ayla Hernandez, Ivy Duckworth, Colt Duckworth, Gabby Duckworth, Coraline Duckworth.

In addition to her parents, Lavenia is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Duckworth; brother, Carl McCoy Barrier, Jr.; sister, Hilma Nell Luckadoo.

The family will receive friends from 1pm until 2pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at St. Matthews UMC. The funeral will be held at 2pm in the church with Rev. Lisa Marshall, Rev. Terry Duckworth and Larry Tooley officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews UMC, 201 Shady Rest Road, Morganton, NC 28655.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Lavenia was the most precious, sincere Christian woman I have ever been blessed to have known. Her love and devotion to others was beyond any.
