Laura G. Rhodes

Laura G. Rhodes, 92, of Morganton, NC, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on January 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John Pinkney Galloway, Sr. and Addie Louise Saulman Galloway.

Laura was a lifelong member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Morganon Jaycees. Laura was valedictorian of the 1952 graduating class of Oak Hill High School, which was the third graduating class of the school. She enjoyed cross-stitch, making handmade baskets, camping, and trips to the beach and mountains. She was an exceptional cook who loved her family, and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Laura worked at Skyland Textiles, Southern Great Lakes Carbon, and at Foothills Area Program.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Robert “Bobby” William Rhodes, Jr. (Carol Buchanan) and Susan Rhodes Propst; grandchildren, William D. Propst (Sami) and Adam Propst (Susan); great-grandchildren, Oliver, Keslee, Cole, and Kyle; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family; and her fur-baby, Snickers.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Robert “Bob” William Rhodes, Sr.; sisters, Louise Peeler, Virginia G. Pitts, and Annie Mae Lewis-Ehenfeldt; and brothers, William W. Galloway and John Galloway, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Adam Love and Rev. Owen Peeler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Hickory Falls Rehab Center/Long Term Care Facility and Amorem Hospice for their love and care of Laura.
