Laura Bice Edmonson Thomas

Laura Bice Edmonson Thomas, 89, of Morganton, NC, died Saturday, December 22, 2018 after a period of declining health. She was born in Caldwell County on June 23, 1929 to the late Lula Liza Jane Edmonson. She attended public schools in Caldwell and Burke Counties. She worked as a custodian at Hillcrest Elementary School and did domestic work for many families in Burke County. Mrs. Thomas was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, Floral Club, and Missionary Club until her failing health.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Tommy Long Thomas, her first born son, Eugene Thomas; brothers, Lonnie, Lennie and Daniel Edmonson; two infant sisters; granddaughter, Ashley Jones; grandson, Joshua Thomas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Howard Wayne Thomas of Morganton, Stephen L. Thomas I and wife, Susan of Loris, SC, Frank Anthony Thomas and wife, Sandra of Claremont, NC, Phillip Jermone Thomas and wife, Vonda of Morganton; daughters, Diann Thomas Tate and husband, Oscar and Belinda Thomas Vinson and husband, Rev. Walter Vinson, both of Morganton; daughter-in-law, Frances Johnson Thomas of Morganton; nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren; niece, Jacqueline Edmonson Turner; nephews, Carlton, Dean and Lonnie Edmonson; and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory. The service will be at 1:00pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Reverends Robert Cantrell, Michael Mathes, Albert Hillman and Tommy Carpenter presiding. Burial will follow at Olive Hill Cemetery.
