Laura Ann Garrison Gordon

Laura Ann Garrison Gordon, 84, of Morganton, NC, transferred to the Church Triumphant on Saturday, September 18, 2026.

Born in Burke County, NC on November 27, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe L. Garrison and Faye Byrd Garrison.

Laura was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Morganton and was a devoted mother and grandmother. In 2009 she retired as Tax Supervisor at the Burke County Tax Office after 36 years of service.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Laura “Beth” Powell (Tim), and their children, Jennifer Cardenas (David), Lauren Powell, and Bryan Powell (Samantha); son, Todd Young (Kimberly), and their children, Jeffrey Young (Helen) and Michael Young (Katie); great-grandson, Brayden Powell; nephew, Rob Carr; and niece, Jane Carr.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Waits W. Gordon, Jr.; brother, Roscoe “Sonny” Garrison; sisters, Julia Garrison Carr and Jeannette Kerley Garrison; nephews, Richard Byrd Garrison and Leigh Wayne Kerley.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at noon in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Dan Hester officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
