Larry Joseph Ross, 71, of Morganton, NC passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Valor Hospice Unit of the Charles George VA Medical Center, Asheville NC. Born in Burke County, NC on March 26, 1945, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph Ross and Anna “Frances” Lineback Ross. Larry was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church. He attended Salem High School and served in the Army Special Forces as an Airborne Sniper attached to First Air Calvary, 101st Airborne, 82nd Airborne, 173rd Airborne, 501st Airborne, and 503rd Airborne. Larry worked at Great Lakes, Valdese Weavers and Lowes Hardware. He loved laughing while making others laugh. He just wanted to joke, kid and be happy. If you asked him for something he would answer “you got five dollars.”
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Marcus Andrew Good; and a daughter, Adrienne Blaire Ross both of Morganton.
Larry is survived by his wife, Belle Good Ross; grandchildren, Brittany Hope Alire and husband, Freddie of Salisbury, NC, Chad Young of China Grove, NC, Destiny Good of Morganton, Kira Faith Good of Layton, UT and Landon Rose of Morganton; great-grandchildren, Leo and Cole Alire, and Noland Young; brother, Rex Ross and wife, Jennifer; niece and nephew, Brook Ross and Robby Ross all of Connelly Springs; and sister-in-law, Susan Faus and her late husband, Linn Faus of Layton, UT.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2017 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Sam Buckner officiating. Military honors will be provided by Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. Burial of cremains will be at Western NC Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC on a later date. In lieu flowers memorial contributions may be made to Valor Hospice Unit at Charles A. George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Rd., Asheville, NC 28805.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
