L. G. Hamrick, 90, of Morganton, NC died Monday, August 25, 2014. Born in Cleveland County, NC on April 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Gidney E. Hamrick and Carrie McSwain Hamrick. He was a graduate of Morganton High School and was a U. S. Navy Veteran stationed on the USS Missouri, "The Mighty Mo," during WWII. He witnesses the Japanese formal surrender aboard the ship on September 2, 1945. He loved sharing stories about his experiences on the ship. L. G. was retired assistant manager from Belk where he was employed for 43 years. He loved reading, gardening, and being outdoors. He attended Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Shadarack "Buck" Hamrick and his wife, Kitty.
L.G. is survived by his wife, Emma Mikeal Hamrick of the home; daughters, Teresa Hamrick and companion, Robert Crawley, of Morganton, and Anita Hamrick-McFalls and husband, Dean, of Morganton; sisters-in-law, Margie Braswell, Ruby Nelson, Peggy Mikeal, Mary Wilma Kent and husband, Horry, and Dottie McGalliard and husband, Doug; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Littlejohns United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverends Lou Gardner, Bob Deviney and David Lawrence officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the U. S. Navy and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Lynn Glass, friend of the family; Keith Hunt with Catawba Valley Medical Services, and the staff at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for their devoted and loving care.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
