Kenneth “Ken” Harris, 86, of Drexel, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Born in Burke County, NC on April 19, 1940, he was the son of the late John F. Harris and Donnie P. Harris.
Ken was a veteran of the NC Army National Guard. He was an active member of Enon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, RA leader, and on various church committees. He retired from Bellsouth/AT&T and owned and operated K. Harris Communications. Ken served as mayor of Drexel from 1975 until 1986.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Kendra Leigh Harris Baker, Kevin Neel Harris and wife, Teresa, and Kory Allen Harris and partner, Angela; grandchildren, Justin Gantt Turner, Zachary Lee Turner, MacKenzie Leigh Baker, Michael Cary Morgan, Leah Marie Crochet, Hannah Marie Harris, Jeremiah Neel Harris, Morgan Marie Harris, and Jordan Allen Harris; great-grandchildren, Alaina, Colby, Alexander, Gabby, Jaden, Manny, Kora, Sawyer, and Ryder; a great-great-grandchild, Ellie; brother, Cecil Harris; and a sister, Diane Epley.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia S. Harris; and a brother, Lamont Harris.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Enon Baptist Church, and the service will be held at 4 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the NC National Guard.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
