Kenneth Dean Ollis, 89, of Morganton, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025 after a period of declining health.
Born in Burke County, NC on October 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Millard Ruben Ollis and Floria Eula Barrier Ollis.
Kenneth was a sincere Christian man and a lifelong member of Jonas Ridge United Methodist Church. He loved the Lord and his family, and demonstrated his love through his devotion as a husband, father, and grandfather. He served as a sergeant in the US Air Force, and he retired from Broughton Hospital after 35 years of service as the assistant director of medical records. Kenneth authored two books, “How Blue are the Ridges” and a book of poetry, “Seasons of Poetry.”
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 71 years, Edna “Jackie” Ollis; sons, Kenneth Dean Ollis, Jr. and Martin Gerald Ollis (Terri); grandchildren, Dana Ollis Powell (Kevin), Martin Gerald Ollis, Jr., and Shaun Ollis; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Jackson, Hunter, Katana, and Jeremy; special niece, Dia McCarrick; and a special nephew, Tommy Puett.
In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother, James “Hayden” Ollis; and a sister, Patricia Clarke.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Brad Browning officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Air Force.
