Kenneth Carswell Jr. passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the age of 56. He was born on December 26, 1968, to the late Dowl Kenneth Carswell Sr. and Edna Brewer Carswell in Morganton, NC. Kenneth attended Mull’s Grove Baptist Church during his youth and was an active member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church upon his passing.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Lorrie Patton Carswell; son, William Kenneth Carswell (and his partner Wesley Farmer); daughter, Callie Elizabeth Carswell (and her fiancé Elijah Moore); step-son, Ethan Harris (and his wife Jordan Harris); step-daughter, Chelsey Harris; sister, Marlene Carswell Holcombe; nephew, Brandon Holcombe (and his fiancée Jennifer Ferguson); and great-niece, Chloe Holcombe.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Stanley Holcombe.

In his early years, Kenneth enjoyed competitive speed skating, playing church softball, and working with his father as a brick mason. Kenneth and his father owned and operated Carswell Pawn and Trade shop together. Kenneth was known for his gentle soul and greatly enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He loved hiking the High Country with his son, Will, finding peace and connection on the trails they explored together.

Kenneth and his daughter Callie shared a love of sports, spending countless hours watching football, basketball, baseball, and hockey together, and were avid Carolina Tar Heels and Carolina Panthers fans. Some of Kenneth’s favorite moments were spent at Myrtle Beach with his wife, Lorrie, where they relaxed, laughed, and made lasting memories together. Kenneth treasured spending time with his sister, Marlene, reminiscing upon family memories of their upbringing. Kenneth also had an affinity for animals, and adopted a stray cat, Bugs, who enjoyed receiving countless treats and pettings. Kenneth had a strong belief in God and was active in the Faith Free Will Baptist church community.

The family will receive support and condolences from 1-2 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Mull’s Grove Baptist Church (5106 Burkemont Rd, Morganton, NC 28655). The memorial service will begin at 2 pm at Mull’s Grove Baptist with Reverend Dean McCurry and Reverend Rocky Reese officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made towards causes that Kenneth was passionate about. Kenneth’s family encourages donations to the Friends for Animals Humane Society of Burke County at bit.ly/KenCarswell in Kenneth’s name and/or to Kenneth’s dear friend, David Cheni of Springs of Calvary Christian Ministries of Uganda. Donations to Springs of Calvary Christian Ministries of Uganda can be made via PayPal using David’s email [email protected] or by writing a check and giving it to Lorrie Carswell, Kenneth’s wife. Kenneth will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Callie and family and friends, I may first of all met Ken at some of Callie's Patton HS tennis matches. He was always so easy to relate to and I remember some very good conversations. I pray that the gentleness of Christ will give you comfort and that you can lean into the many wonderful memories you all made together.
