Kayree Reel Blackburn, 75, of Drexel, NC passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. Born in McDowell County, NC on February 7, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Jack Reel and Verlie Marie Beach Reel. Kayree was a member of Amherst Baptist Church for 49 years where she taught children’s Sunday school for 40 years. She retired from Alba-Waldensian after 32 years.
Mrs. Blackburn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul Blackburn of the home; a daughter, Paula Kaye Lawing and her husband, Robert, of Conover, NC; a grandson, Nolan Isenhour of the home; a step-grandson, Noah Lawing of Franklin, TN; a brother, Clinton Reel and his wife, Joan, of Marion, NC; sisters, Doris Johnson of Valdese, NC and Sharon Vaughn and her husband, Ernest, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Kayree’s family helped give her the strength to battle cancer for seven years.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Amherst Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Joplin officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. At other times the family will be at the home.
