Kay Frances Breitenbach Jones, 80, of Morganton died at Burke Hospice on October 3, 2019 after a long, painful, but courageous fight which included two hospital stays at a local hospital and six weeks in the Intensive Care Unit of Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, NC.„ Thirty days at Burke Hospice plus nineteen days at Grace Heights Nursing Center and an additional stay of fifteen more days at Burke Hospice.

Kay was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Frank Breitenbach. Her late brother was Barry W. Breitenbach. One great- grandchild, Lila Jolene Wittenberg also preceded her in death.

Her most heartbreaking loss was her son, James (Jay) Allen Jones who died in 1991.

Some of Kay's most endearing traits were her expressions of empathy, sympathy, and advocacy for her students as a teacher at The NC School for the Deaf and later at Freedom High School. She gave each student, regardless of race or socioeconomic background, a feeling that they were a worthy person deserving of the best life had to offer.

More recently she enjoyed many hours sewing quilts and spending time with her many special friends. Rarely a day went by that she was not enjoying their friendship and learning new sewing skills.

Kay was a loving mother who always was there for her children. She loved to remind them that "Once a mother, always a mother" as she blessed them with her love.

Kay is survived by her husband of 55 years, William (Bill) Jones. Sons, William E. (Ted) Jones, Tom Jones (Gaye). And David Jones (Ginger). grandchildren are Daniel Jones, Drew Wittenberg, Morgan Jones, Spencer Jones and Savannah Jones.

The family of Kay Frances Breitenbach Jones will receive friends Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 PM one hour prior to the memorial service to be conducted by the Dr. Tomas A. Bland Jr., in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home commencing at 3:00 PM, October 6, 2019.

Interment services will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund, First Baptist Church, Morganton, NC, or to Burke Hospice Patient Care Unit, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC. Donations, to either or both, will be appreciated by her family.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
