Kathy Elaine Gouge Merrell, 54, of Morganton passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017. Born in Burke County, NC on August 28, 1963, she was the daughter of Frances Fatena Chapman Gouge and the late Edgar Pinkney Gouge. Kathy was a member of Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a loving mother who always had an open heart for others and was willing to help anyone.
Kathy is survived by 3 sons, Dustin McCurry, John Merrell, Jr., and Robert Merrell, all of Morganton; grandchildren, Damian McCurry and Rayln Merrell; brothers, Danny Gouge of Tennessee, Ronnie Jones of Icard, NC, Jerry Jones of Rutherford College, NC, John Crain of Drexel, NC, and Matthew Crain of Valdese, NC; and a sister, Tina Jones of Lenoir, NC.
In addition to her father, Kathy was preceded in death by a sister, Crystal Jones.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, October, 3, 2017 at Morganton Seventh Day Adventist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Pastor Rick Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family.
