Katherine Walker Crowe, 87, of Keller, Texas and a former Morganton, NC resident, peacefully passed away and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at her home in the Watermere community of Southlake, Texas. Born October 15, 1927 in Trenton, NJ, she was a daughter of the late Joel David Walker and Artie Bumgarner Walker.

Katherine was raised in Morganton and lived throughout the U.S. and Europe, accompanying her husband, the late Eugene Mack Crowe, during much of his military career in the United States Army. After his retirement from the Army, they returned to Morganton and later established their home in the Salem community. Katherine and Gene were founding members of Grace Baptist Church, and in subsequent decades enjoyed the fellowship of a congregation that loved them as much as they loved it.

In addition to her parents and husband Gene, of 49 years, her brother, Herbert Walker and sister, Jane Walker, preceded her in death. In 2012, declining health and a desire to live closer to her daughter necessitated a move from Morganton to Texas. She faced this move with characteristic strength, however her heart always remained in Morganton with the many friends and church family she cherished.

Survivors are her daughter Debbie Helms and husband, Rick of Keller, Texas; her son Keith Crowe and wife, Katherine of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Shelby and Madison Helms, Shannon and Matthew Crowe; and an aunt, Zula Orders of Morganton.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Grace Baptist Church, Morganton, NC with the Reverend Marty Bess officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church beginning one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 1939 Paul Shuping Ave., Morganton, NC 28655 or to Community Hospice of Texas, 6100 Western Place, Suite 105, Fort Worth, TX 76107. The family expresses their deep and sincere gratitude to the members of Grace Baptist Church, Community Hospice of Texas for their outstanding care, and to their many friends who have selflessly given their love and support throughout the years.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.sossomanfh.com.
