Karen Thomas, 64, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Born in Perquimans County, NC on October 9, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Delton Lightfoot and Patricia Marie Chavez Lightfoot. Karen was a member of St. Stevens Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, NC. She worked at several restaurants and then worked at Kmart as a manager. She loved arts and crafts and keeping a garden. Karen was a natural caregiver who enjoyed helping kids in her neighborhood.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 38 years, Vernon Thomas; son, Delantre Lightfoot (Jason Buff); daughter, Reginia Lightfoot (Leon Mercer); granddaughter, Beyonce Lightfoot; and siblings, Gilbert, Wayne, Althea, and Andre Lightfoot.
In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Delton Lightfoot, Jr.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
