Karen Sue Fletcher, 61, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at home, with her husband Danny by her side on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Born December 6, 1964, in McDowell County, Karen was the daughter of Dean Morgan and Glestia Gasaway Morgan.
Karen was a 1984 graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf. Throughout her life, she was a hardworking and dedicated woman.
More than anything, Karen loved her family. She was a loving daughter, sister, a devoted wife – Danny’s shining star, a loving mother, fun aunt and a proud nana. Her family was an important part of her life, and the love she had for them will continue through the many memories they shared with her.
Karen also knew how to have a good time. With her quick wit, sassiness, sense of humor, and unmistakable laugh, she had a way of bringing laughter wherever she went. She found joy in being with the people she loved, teasing them, laughing with them, and making memories that became stories worth telling again and again. There was rarely a dull moment when Karen was around, and life was simply more fun when she was there. Those loved by her will miss so many things, but especially her laugh, how she filled a room with her loving spirit and the way she could always make life a little more fun.
Perhaps Karen summed up her approach to life best herself: “I’m not here for a long time; I’m here for a good time.”
In addition to her parents, those left to cherish Karen’s memory include her husband, Danny Fletcher; daughter, Monica McBride and husband Francis; son, Martin McGee; grandchildren, Declan McGee and Colin McBride; brother Jimmy Morgan and wife, Pam; nephew, Dusty Morgan and wife, Samantha; niece, Ashton Cox and husband, Adam; great-nephews, Caymen Morgan, Grant Cox, Gabriel Morgan and Jayce Cox; and special friend, Blaine Crockford.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
