J.P. Butler, 71, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, September 16, 2019. He was born on August 3, 1948 in Burke County to the late Joseph R. Butler and Florence Watts Butler. J.P. served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and loved his children and grandchildren dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Conley Butler; sister-in-law, Patricia Butler; brothers-in-law, Will Huffman and Carl Powell.
J.P. is survived by a daughter, Michelle Bonorden (Weylin) of Hickory, NC; son, Michael Butler of Morganton; brothers, Garland Butler, Leonard Butler, and Glen Butler (Karen), all of Morganton; sisters, Eva Huffman, Sadie Powell and Lou Ellen Harmon (Jimmy) all of Morganton; grandchildren, Keelan Triplett, Wyatt Bonorden and Kiley Bonorden.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm, Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. The funeral will be at 2:00pm, Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Carroll officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
