Joyce Hughes Allman, 76, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.
Born in Yancey County, NC on April 19, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Chester Hughes and Mae Cassida Hughes. Joyce was a member of Oak Hill Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering at the church and with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Oak Hill Fire Department. She also enjoyed arts and crafts and decorating. However, her favorite activity was spending time with her family.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister-in-law, Joyce is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ray Bennett Allman; son, Jeffery Allman (Holly); grandson and Joy of her life, Caleb Allman; sisters-in-law, Mabel Moore (Sonny) and Joann Thompson (Sid); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Harley Hughes; and a sister, Christin Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Adam Love officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Hill Methodist Church, 2239 NC 181, Morganton, NC 28655.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Joyce was an awesome lady. She trained me at Haynes in Morganton. Every time I see she was always such a nice friendly, loving person caring I am so sorry for y’all‘s loss. Praying for peace and comfort.

I will miss Joyce. She and Bennett have been such good neighbors. Nobody could outshine Joyce as a decorator. She made such beautiful table arrangements, wreaths, and other artwork. She is at rest now and suffers no more pain. We will meet you in a little while, Joyce. My prayers are with the family.
