Joyce Greene Dale, 87, of Morganton, NC, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 9, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on July 17, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Dorch Greene and Mary Patton Greene.

Joyce was a charter member of McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. She was the church pianist and taught the ladies Sunday school for over 45 years. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother, and caring sister. Joyce was a mom to many who knew her and grandma to the children of Hopewell Daycare, from which she retired.

Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Robert E. Tallent, Jr. (Amber), Tiffany R. Tallent, and Sadonja W. Tyson (Michael); son-in-law, Doug Wilcox; daughter-in-law, Janet Tallent; younger sister, Glenda M. Cannon; and many beloved friends.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, George E. Tallent; second husband, Millard G. Dale; children, Robert E. Tallent and Phyllis L. Wilcox; grandchildren, Amanda M. Tallent and Joyce R. Tallent; and an older sister, Mary A. Tallent.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Thursday, August 14, 2025 at McDowell Independent Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the church with Revs. Dennis Carswell, Henry Houk, and Doug Mathis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Joyce was the best sourdough bread maker at Butches! Nobody has been able to get the bread right since she left. Joyce I’ve shared many laughs and tears with you. Rest now. Sadonja I’m so sorry for your loss.
