With profound sadness but also with deep gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce Arleen Moeller, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, on March 29, 2026, at Amorem Hospice House in Valdese, NC. Born on April 24, 1938, in Crookston, Minnesota, Joyce was the beloved daughter of Albert E. Fylling and Cora M. Fylling.

Joyce's life was a testament to the power of compassion and dedication. Following in her mother's footsteps, she pursued a career in nursing, graduating from the Swedish Hospital of Nursing in 1960. Her 46-year career in nursing was marked by her unwavering commitment to patient care. Joyce served as a Nursing Supervisor at the Ellis Fischell State Cancer Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, and the Glen County Memorial Hospital in Brunswick, Georgia. For 26 years, she was a respected Nursing Supervisor and Recovery Room Nurse at Grace Hospital, retiring in April 2000. Her colleagues remember her as a beacon of kindness and professionalism.

Joyce's love for her community was evident through her active involvement in various organizations. She was a dedicated member of the New Covenant Lutheran Church in Morganton, NC, where she cherished her relationships with fellow congregants and her pastor. Her leadership and community spirit shone brightly during her tenure as president of the Brunswick/St. Simons Island, Georgia chapter of Beta Sigma Phi (1972-1973) where she was honored as "Girl of the Year" in 1973 for her outstanding community and charity work.

One of the proudest achievements of Joyce's life was her 45-year journey of sobriety. Her personal triumph over alcohol addiction became a source of inspiration and a guiding light for many others on their own paths to recovery. Her warmth, honesty, and support left an indelible mark on countless lives.

Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's life. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles F. Moeller, and their infant son, Christian F. Moeller. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Debra Martin (Robert) and Pamela Story (David), her sisters Joan Nielsen and Janet Hilton, and her brother John Fylling. Joyce was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren: Noelle Martin, Jacob Martin (Summer), Gabrielle Miller (Trever), and Spencer Story. She was also the loving great-grandmother of six: Landon Martin (Marissa), Gaven Sweeney, Grayson Burleson, Aden Burleson, Lynkin Miller, and Kennedy Martin. These children brought joy to her life.

Joyce found beauty in simple pleasures, feeding her beloved wild birds, reading, and listening to old hymns and Christmas songs, playing the piano, and enjoying her back poarch. She was known for her baking, always sharing treats made with love.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all who supported Joyce throughout her life. A memorial service to celebrate her remarkable journey will be held later at the New Covenant Lutheran Church in Morganton.

In remembering Joyce, we honor a life filled with love, service, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her spirit will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
