Joseph “Joe” Manson Carver, Jr., 76, of Morganton died Tuesday, June 19, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with leukemia.  Born in Haywood County, NC on September 5, 1941, he was the son of the late Joseph Manson Carver, Sr. and Francis Mabel Lucille Arrington Carver.  Joe was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. 

He worked as a NC State Trooper during the 1970s and retired as a long-haul trucker from Drexel Heritage.  He enjoyed watching wrestling and movies.  He also enjoyed working and attending flea markets.  However, his favorite activities were clogging and chewing tobacco.

A loving and devoted father and grandfather, Joe is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Jo Carver Quincy of Hickory, Tammie Carver (Dennis) Frank of Morganton, Kimberly Kaye (Russell) Lax of Oregon, Amanda Nicole (Lenior) Benfield of Morganton, and Kim Orders and fiancé, Terry Houston, of Morganton; grandchildren, Briana Frank and fiancée, Candace Brittain, and Cassondra (Sam) Hedin; great-grandchildren, Shane Adkins and Jamie Hedin; brother, David (Katherine) Carver of Asheville; former wife, Ellen Lane Carver; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean Jarvis; and a former wife, Sandra Price Carver.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Revs. Norm Jones and Dennis Carswell officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
