Joseph “Joe” Brian Harbour, 38, of Morganton found ultimate peace in his heavenly home on April 9, 2018, supported by his faith and love of family and friends.

Joe was born to Robert “Bob” and Barbara Harbour on June 19, 1979.  He grew up with his brother, Ben, pursuing music, outdoor adventures, and God.

An avid musician, Joe played baritone, bassoon, oboe, and tuba.  He played these various instruments in concert bands and marching bands at both Freedom High School and Western Carolina University.  Joe added to his musical career by singing baritone in the Freedom High School Concert Choir and musical dramas.  He later performed in the outdoor dramas “Horn in the West” in Boone, NC and “From this Day Forward” in Valdese, NC.  Joe was elected to Phi Theta Kappa and graduated with honors while earning his Associates of Arts degree with a concentration in Accounting from Catawba Valley Community College in 2013.

Joe’s outdoor adventures included go-carting as a kid to competing in bike races as an adult.  He also enjoyed nature hikes that allowed him to capture the wonder of God’s creation through his keen eye and photography.  Joe had deep knowledge of Scripture, Biblical history, and culture.  Talking with him often challenged the listener to study more deeply and draw more closely to God.  His fun-loving spirit brought laughter to all who were around him.  He was a friend who liked to help and was willing to listen.  He will be greatly missed.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Josiah Harbour; parents, Bob and Barbara; brother, Ben Harbour and his wife, Leslie, and their children, Alena, Braden, Evelie, and Daniel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

A receiving of family and friends will occur from 4 pm to 7 pm, Saturday, April 28, 2018, in the Salem United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Joe will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Salem United Methodist Church.

Please share your words of comfort, remembrances, and photos of Joe by emailing [email protected].  The family will compile your stories and pictures into a memory book which will bring great comfort in the weeks, months, and years to come.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
