Joseph Carol Smith, 72 of Morganton, NC passed away, Monday, May 11, 2026 following a period of declining health. Born on February 12, 1954 in Waynesville NC, he was the son of the late Vinson and Leona Smith. Joseph retired from Food Lion at Fiddlers Run in Morganton, NC. He loved to cook and to work in the garden. Joseph also loved his cat, Rosa.
Joseph is survived by his sister, Katherine Burke of Waynesville; aunt, Myrtle Walker Rash of Hickory; and his special friend, Elsie Bartlett of Valdese.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Robert Smith, James Ray Smith, Billy Smith, and Harold Smith.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Amorem Hospice, especially Katie Estrella, his social worker, and Susan Tester, his nurse, for their compassionate, loving care of Joe.
There are no services planned at this time for the Smith family.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
