Johnny Pinkney Hoke, 81, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 5, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on November 17, 1937, he was the son of the late James Quinton Hoke and Mary Idella Branch Hoke.  Johnny was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Air National Guard.  He was a southern gentleman who loved his wife, animals, deer, and red mustang.  He had many friends and enjoyed taking long drives through the country.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Mable Juanita Queen Hoke of the home; sister, Ann Hoke Paschal of Dahlonega, GA; a niece; a nephew; several cousins and extended family; dear friends, Linda and John Woods; and his faithful dog, Crash.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2019 at Salem United Methodist Church.  The funeral will be held at 6 p.m. in the church with Rev. Norm Jones officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
