John Samuel Freeman, 74, of Charlotte passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018.  Born in Durham County, NC on October 27, 1944, he was the son of the late Samuel Williamson Freeman and Vivian Lee Jenkins Freeman.  John was a former member of First Baptist Church in Morganton and attended Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte.  He graduated from Morganton High School in 1963, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNC Chapel Hill in 1967, and earned his degree of Juris Doctor from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Law in 1970.  He was a partner in the law firm Knox, Knox, Freeman, and Brotherton in Charlotte.  He also had a private practice, John S. Freeman, Attorney at Law, which handled commercial real estate.

John is survived by his sons, John Freeman, Jr. (Robin) of Oakland, CA and Charles R. Freeman of Murrells Inlet, SC; grandson, Benjamin of Murrells Inlet, SC; his former wife of 20 years, Pamela C. Freeman of Georgetown, SC; brother, Tom Freeman (Connie) of Morganton; step-sister, Margaret Puckett (James) of Asheville; and step-sister-in-law, Ramona Tucker of Carriere, MS.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his step-mother, Lalage G. Freeman; and his step-brother, John T. Tucker.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, November 26, 2018 at Sossoman Funeral Home.  The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 27 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Morganton.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
