John Riggan, 82, of Morganton, NC went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, April 11, 2011. Born in Warren County, NC on November 16, 1928, he was the son of the late Howard and Emma Riggan. John attended Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. He owned and operated A & J Railroad Construction. John retired to Burke County in 2003 and became a member of the Glen Alpine Ruritan. He was noted for his fried apple pies. John enjoyed gardening and loved to participate in the Burke County Fair exhibits.He is survived by his wife, Anne Bowers Riggan of the home; children, Larry Riggan and wife, Charlie, Debbie Carnes and husband, James, and Zandra Wolff; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas A. Riggan and wife, Martha; and a sister, Alice R. Allen.In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers, James H. Riggan, Jr., Percy L Riggan, and E. Baxter Riggan.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church with Reverends David J. Duncan and Joseph Holland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery.
