John “Homer” Hardie Clark, Sr., 82, of Morganton died Sunday, May 12, 2019.  Born in Burke County, NC on May 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Grover Clark and Nola Marie Helms Clark.  Homer was a member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and getting together with his family.  He loved life.

Homer is survived by his wife, Carolyn Norville Clark of the home; children, Johnny Clark, Jeff Clark (Tammy), and Ruth ‘Cricket” Ray; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Alden Clark (Elaine) and Palmer Clark (Mildred); sister, Rebecca Bradshaw (Randy); and his canine companion, Lucille.

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Russell Clark; brothers, Buren, Floyd, and Claude Clark; and sisters, Verina Freeman, Judy Pearson, and Lavern Pearson.

The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center.  The memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Dean Hart officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the US Navy and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
