John Harold "Shorty" Greene

John Harold "Shorty" Greene, 80, of Dysartsville Road, Morganton, NC, died Monday, July 2, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born in McDowell County, NC on November 3, 1926, he was the son of the late J. T. Greene, Sr. and Mary Margaret Lowdermilk Greene. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Greene, and a sister, Gale Miller. Shorty was a member of Mountain View #2 Baptist Church and retired from Henredon Furniture after thirty-five years of service.A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cora Taylor Greene of the home; a son, John Carroll Greene and wife, Linda, of Morganton; daughters, Nan McCall of Lenoir, NC and Susan Brooks and husband, Joe, of Greenwood, SC; brothers, Arliss Green and wife Jessie, and Joe T. Greene and wife, Kathy, all of Morganton; four sisters, Margie Wright of Kings Mountain, NC, Jewell Houk, Johnsie Chatham, and Ozelle Sotelo and husband, Art, all of Morganton; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2007 at Mountain View #2 Baptist Church with Reverends Sid Houk and Paul White officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. At other times the family will be at the residence, 4835 Dysartsville Road, Morganton.
