John David Burnette, Sr., 75, of Morganton, NC, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023.
Born in Burke County, NC on May 7, 1948, he was the son of the late JC Burnette and Josephine Carswell Burnette.
John was an avid shooter who enjoyed playing golf, taking trips to the beach, and working on cars. He was a fan of Dale Earnhardt. He worked as a supervisor at Hanes and was a truck driver.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lynda Keever Burnette; sons, Kevin Mitchell Burnette (Tracy), Tracy Burnette (Teresa), and John Burnette, II (Frances); eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a special niece, Michelle Burnette Cooke; and grandson and caregiver, Josh Burnette.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Wayne Burnette; sister, Brenda Burnette Small; and mother-in-law, Mabel Keever.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Johnny was a good friend . We had lots of fun in the 1960s thru 1980s. Very glad to have been able to have as a friend in my life
