John "Curtis" Morris, II, 95, of Morganton died peacefully Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his residence. Born October 23, 1915 in Belvedere, SC, he was a son of the late John Curtis Morris, and Addie Wise Morris. Curtis was drafted into the US Army, and served from 1942 to 1946. Following an honorable discharge from the service, he worked for UM&M; Clearwater Finishing Plant for 43 years and was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church. After Curtis’s retirement in 1978, he and his wife moved to Morganton. He and his wife, Wadie, have been faithful members of Calvary Baptist Church since 1978. Curtis loved his family and his neighbors with all his heart.He is survived by his wife, Wadie of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dan Clemmons of Morganton; a daughter-in-law, Kay Morris of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren, Jeff Clemmons and wife, Cathy, Kelly Baker and husband, Brent, all of Morganton, Kevin Morris, Michael Morris and wife, Kari, and Kimberly Turner and husband, Stephen, all of North Augusta; great-grandchildren, Kyle Clemmons, Garrett Clemmons, Cash Baker, and Kieran Turner.In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his son, John C. Morris, III; and sisters, Margaret Holiday and Norma Garner.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
