John Carroll Mayfield, 76, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Born in Burke County, NC on September 8, 1949, he was the son of the late John Nelson Mayfield and Mary Louise Jordan Mayfield.
John worked and retired from Carolina Shoe with over 20 years of service and took welding classes at Western Piedmont Community College. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Kyle Busch, and loved spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Leonard Mayfield; sister, Betty Edwards; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Mayfield and David Mayfield; and a sister, Janice Maxine Icard.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2026 at Nowlings Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Darvy Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
