John A. Deal, 98, of Morganton, NC passed away Monday, August 29, 2016. Born in Burke County, NC on September 13, 1917, he was the last of 12 children of the late Robert Sylvester Deal and Elizabeth Rector Deal. John worked for many years as a carpenter and was an avid hunter. He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and at other churches he had served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and in many other church activities. He was a constant witness for the Lord.
John is survived by his daughters, Shirlene Spann and her husband, Paul, of Granite Falls, NC, Frances Stovall of Connelly Springs, NC, Norma Causby and her husband, Ted, of Valdese, NC, and Lorena Erwood of Icard, NC; a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Belle Shidal Deal; sons, Ricky and John E. Deal; grandsons, Bryan White and Billy Deal; and 11 brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 3 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2016 at Solid Rock Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at the church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Stacy Layne officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
