Joe Eddy Roper, 86, of Morganton, NC went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, July 10, 2022. Born on May 10, 1936, he was the son of the late James Hearl and Bessie Roper. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Joe Eddy was a member of Salem UMC. He graduated from Salem High School where he lettered in football and baseball. Joe Eddy played American Legion and semi-pro baseball. He enjoyed weight lifting his entire life. He was a Golden Glove Boxer. Joe Eddy graduated from Appalachian State University where he won two AAU State Wrestling Championships. He was in local law enforcement for 20 years including Drexel PD and Burke County Sherriff Dept. and was a Public School Teacher from 1958 to 1971, teaching at Pleasant Gardens, Valmead, and Oak Hill Elementary, where he was a coach and was a Drivers Ed Teacher. Joe Eddy was the owner of Ropers Robo Carwash and Ropers Motorcycles Sales where he sold motorcycles from 1958 until his death.

Joe Eddy is survived by his sons, Alan Roper (Debra), Vince Roper (Regina), Gannon Roper; grandchildren, Grayson, Gavin and Wade Roper.

In addition to his parents, Joe Eddy is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Roper; aunts that raised him, Dorothy “Dar”and Estelle Roper.

The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm, Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Salem UMC. A funeral will be held in the church at 3pm with the Rev. David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
